Breakthrough in pure physics allows IBM to store data in single atom

IBM researchers at the Almaden labs have been able to store data in a single atom. This was the result of the breakthrough they achieved by non-destructively measuring the magnetic anisotropy of an atom. Another scientist at Zurich labs has made a switch out of two hyderogen atoms. It will be another decade, though, before this technology can be commercialized.
