Near Particle accelerators are finding their use in the fight against cancer. Although this alternative is a little expensive, this offers the promise of safer usage of radiation in cancer treatment. It uses protons accelerated to close to the speed of light. These protons hit the tumor and shed all their energy in the tumor without harming the tissue around. The caveat is that this technology is rather expensive.
